Typographic syntax diagram for Grammar Atlas

Research tooling

Grammar Atlas

A corpus workspace for comparing syntactic alternations while keeping evidence, annotation, and revision in view.

Role
Product architecture, annotation model, and interaction design.
Question
How can uncertain syntactic evidence remain comparable without being made to look falsely settled?
Approach
Linked corpus excerpts, feature analyses, commentary, and revision history in a single research record.
Result
Claims could be compared, qualified, and revisited without losing their evidentiary context.

The design treated uncertainty as part of the scholarship rather than a defect to hide. Evidence and interpretation remained distinct, but close enough to read together.

Dashboard composition for a data product

Data product

Civic Metrics Studio

An editorial data system that turned fragmented public records into traceable reporting and clearer review.

Role
Data architecture, interface design, stakeholder translation, and reporting workflow.
Brief
Consolidate inconsistent civic datasets without hiding differences in source, timing, or definition.
System
SQL and Python imports with source lineage, validation notes, and an editorial review surface.
Result
Editors could move from a published measure back to its source and reasoning without leaving the workflow.

The system separated measurement from presentation without divorcing them. Public summaries stayed clear while the underlying decisions remained inspectable.

Entrepreneurship

Product Foundry

An early-stage product practice spanning research, prototypes, brand, fundraising, hiring, and launch operations.

Role
Founder, product lead, technical lead, and operator.
Mandate
Turn an ambiguous opportunity into a product direction a small team could test and execute.
Practice
Customer interviews, prototypes, operating memos, launch planning, brand work, and hiring systems.
Result
Product and operational decisions stayed legible from early discovery through release.

The enduring lesson was not speed for its own sake, but the discipline of making consequential decisions clearly when information was incomplete.

Index card inspired archive interface

Interface design

Archive Interface

An archival research interface connecting textual sources, annotations, provenance, and evolving interpretations.

Collection
Primary texts, working notes, metadata, citations, and interpretive commentary.
Model
Provenance-aware records linked each claim to its source, annotations, and revision history.
Result
Later revisions could challenge an interpretation without severing it from the evidence that produced it.

The interface borrowed the discipline of critical apparatus: preserve the trail, distinguish observation from argument, and make revision part of the record.

Résumé

Professional history in brief.

The longer record traces a path from entrepreneurship and software into language, computation, and academic study.

Present

Academic work in linguistics and computing

Current interests include sociolinguistics, morphology, phonology, syntax, computational modeling, data representation, and the politics of formalization.

Previously

Entrepreneur and software engineer

Built products, led technical decisions, wrote production software, shaped design systems, and translated ambiguous ideas into working instruments.

Selective consulting

Software, design, and data projects

Available for research tooling, editorial products, technical strategy, data architecture, design systems, and thoughtful product rescue work.
